But a rally in riskier assets on positive, or even neutral, trade news may prove short-lived. We’ve seen this pattern before. Remember: The next …

This Cretaceous-Era Pterosaur Is One Of The Largest Flying Animals Ever Discovered

Boasting a wingspan equivalent to two giraffes (or a single telephone pole), a newly identified species of pterosaur, named Cryodrakon boreas, is one of the largest flying animals ever discovered. This is according to a paper published in the Journal of Vertebrate Paleontology.  This gigantic beast could grow to lengths of up to 10 meters (32 feet) wing tip to wing tip and would have lived some 77 million years ago, during the Cretaceous period, alongside dinosaurs like the Hadrosaurus and the Panoplosaurus. And yet, despite its bird- (or dragon-) like appearance, it was not a dinosaur but a member of the Azhdarchid group of pterosaurs – a family of flying reptiles that includes the Arambourgiania and the (relatively) diminutive Montanazhdarcho.  An artist’s impression of the Cryodrakon boreas looks like a cross between …

Microplastics In Drinking Water Pose Major Environmental Challenge, Study Concludes

Current wastewater treatment processes may not effectively filter microplastic contamination, according to new research. This may cause potential issues for human health and aquatic environments as the accumulation of plastic continues to increase globally. To understand how microplastic pollution breaks down and interacts with water and wastewater treatment processes, scientists measured the efficiency of current wastewater treatment processes to remove nano and microplastics measuring less than 5 millimeters in size, publishing their findings in Water Research. They found that processes used to purify used water may break down tiny pieces of plastic even further, posing concern for the quality of treated water. “The presence of nano and microplastics in water has become a major environmental challenge. Due to their small …

Will the Billy Connolly statue ever find a home?

Image caption Chic Murray – one of Scotland’s great comedians – passed away in 1985. Entitled The Patter, the £100,000 piece depicts the pair at opposite ends of a see-saw, Greenock-born Chic standing upright with Billy hunched over – a nod to how he would always “look up” to his predecessor. But the 7ft statue has never been erected in public – and instead has lain in storage for the past eight years. Mr Beattie said the statue was intended for the grounds of the Oran Mor – but his hands are tied due to a land dispute with Glasgow City Council. Pizza Hut is making a comeback. Its NFL deal is one reason why
